03:39 PM EDT, 06/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) on Monday announced a partnership with OpenAI's ChatGPT and a number of artificial intelligence features debuting as Apple Intelligence across the company's devices and operating systems at its 2024 World Developers Conference

At the event, Chief Executive Tim Cook called Apple Intelligence the "new personal intelligence system" that makes products and apps within the Apple ( AAPL ) ecosystem more useful, and referred to AI as the "next big step for Apple ( AAPL )."

"Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products -- and what our products can do for our users," Cook said in a statement. "Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user's personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way."

Apple Intelligence will put generative AI models at the core of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac across the new iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and MacOS Sequoia, according to the company.

Shares of Apple ( AAPL ) were down 1.8% in late afternoon trading.

Apple ( AAPL ) has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT across its operating systems, allowing users to access its intelligence directly on Apple ( AAPL ) devices without needing to jump between tools. ChatGPT will be available across the Apple ( AAPL ) ecosystem later this year.

Siri, the company's voice assistant, will be able to tap into ChatGPT to help field user requests. ChatGPT will also be available in Apple's ( AAPL ) system-wide writing tools to help users generate content, while its image tools will be accessible for image generation.

The company said it is prioritizing security across Apple Intelligence and that users will be asked before any questions are sent to ChapGPT, along with any documents or photos. User IP addresses will be obscured and OpenAI won't store requests, it said.

Outside of Apple Intelligence, the company announced new software updates for AirPods, an expansion of Apple Vision Pro to new countries beginning June 28, and updated operating systems across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.
