May 6, 2024 10:05 AM

12:35 PM EDT, 05/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) retained its perch as the world's largest seller of tablet computers, commanding more than one-third of all sales during the first three months of 2024, but its market share and the number of units the company sold declined from year-ago levels, an industry study released Monday found.

Apple ( AAPL ) shipped slightly more than 12 million of its various iPad models during Q1, representing almost 36% of the overall market, Canalys said in its quarterly report. That was down from nearly 14 million units and a 42% market share a year ago.

Global sales rose about 1% to 33.7 million units in Q1, the report said. Samsung stayed in second place, with about 20% share.

Huawei ranked third with an 8.1% market share, followed by Lenovo's 6.3% and Amazon's ( AMZN ) 6.1%, according to the report.
