Apple to Allow Other Payment Options for Music Apps in Europe; Appeals to Overturn Apple Watch Import Ban
Apr 8, 2024 5:07 AM

07:43 AM EDT, 04/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) will allow music streaming apps on its App Store in the European Economic Area to inform users about other payment services in a bid to comply with a European Union mandate, the company announced Friday.

The iPhone maker was previously fined 1.84 billion euros ($1.99 billion) by the EU for restricting other payment options outside its App Store.

Apple ( AAPL ) posted on its website that music streaming apps may include a link to their websites to inform users about other payment options aside from Apple's ( AAPL ) in-app purchase system.

Separately, Apple ( AAPL ) had asked the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to reverse a US International Trade Commission ruling that bans imports of certain Apple Watches in a patent dispute with medical technology firm Masimo ( MASI ), according to a Reuters report Friday.

The iPhone maker reportedly argued that the commission's decision was based on a "series of substantively defective patent rulings," the report said.

Apple ( AAPL ) and Masimo ( MASI ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
