Apple Uses Amazon Web Services' AI Chips

07:58 AM EST, 12/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) has been using Amazon (AMZN) Web Services' artificial intelligence chips to build and train Apple's ( AAPL ) personal intelligence system, Amazon said Tuesday.

Benoit Dupin, Apple's ( AAPL ) senior director of machine learning and AI, confirmed the company's use of the AI chips during an Amazon Web Services event on Tuesday. AWS said it has powered several cloud-based Apple ( AAPL ) services for over a decade.

Amazon also said Apple's ( AAPL ) shift to its Graviton and Inferentia2 chips has yielded efficiency gains of over 40% in some of its machine learning services. CNBC also cited Dupin as saying Apple ( AAPL ) is in "early stages" of evaluating AWS' Trainium2 chips.

In a Tuesday report, CNBC said AWS Chief Executive Officer Matt Garman confirmed during an interview that Apple ( AAPL ) is a beta-tester of the Trainium chips.
