08:37 AM EDT, 08/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- BP-backed (BP) Net Zero Teesside Power's gas-fired power station was lawfully approved, London's High Court ruled Wednesday, rejecting a legal challenge by climate campaigner Andrew Boswell.
Judge Nathalie Lieven rejected Boswell's case, stating that "the development was strongly supported in national policy, both planning and energy policy."
Boswell's lawyers argued that ministers did not provide adequate reasons for the conclusion that the project would "help deliver the government's net zero commitment."
Net Zero Teesside Power is a joint venture between Equinor ( EQNR ) and BP, aiming to build an up to 860-megawatt plant in northeast England with carbon capture technology.
BP and Equinor ( EQNR ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment, while Boswell could not be reached for comment.
