Argentina lifts export taxes on aluminum, steel, and derivatives until year-end
Oct 8, 2025 6:39 AM

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -Argentina's government temporarily eliminated export taxes on aluminum, steel, and derivatives until the end of 2025, according to a resolution published in the official gazette.

The tax lift came into effect on Wednesday and will apply to those metals exported to countries that at that time, applied an import tariff of at least 45% to such goods.

The measure will remain in effect until December 31 or until the countries involved reduce their tariffs below 45%, whichever comes first, the resolution said.

"This measure seeks to strengthen export capacity and make one of the country's productive sectors more competitive," the decree added, highlighting that the decision also underscores the intention to align Argentina's trade policies with greater openness.

In September, Argentina temporarily suspended export taxes on soy, corn, wheat and their by-products, including biodiesel, aiming to accelerate sales abroad and secure dollars to stabilize the flagging peso currency, but the measure lasted less than a week.
