As many as 10, 322 farmers with crop insurance belonging to the drought-affected regions of Maharashtra have not received payments from the United India Insurance Company (UIIC) due to problems with the Aadhaar linkages with their bank accounts, reported The Times of India.
As many as 9,960 farmers in Beed district and 362 farmers from the Ahmednagar district are awaiting claims worth of Rs 13 crore, the report said, adding that the information related to the details of the claim are on the insurance company’s website, urging the farmers to submit the required documents to enable settlement.
“Initially, rejected claims amounted to Rs 18 crore in these two districts but we have since paid Rs 5 crore. Around Rs 13 crore is pending. Payments for 30-40 farmers are being cleared daily,” a spokesperson of UIIC was quoted as saying in the report.
These farmers had applied for PM’s Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) either online or through common service centres for the 2017 kharif season and were supposed to get the payments directly transferred to their accounts through direct benefit transfer (DBT), the report said.
However, the insurance company denied payments stating that there were problems with the bank accounts pertaining to “invalid Aadhaar”, problems with “Aadhaar mapping” and linking to the bank accounts, the daily said.
