AstraZeneca to Boost Spending on Virginia Plant by $500 Million to $4.5 Billion

12:57 PM EDT, 10/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- AstraZeneca ( AZN ) will invest $4.5 billion in its new manufacturing facility in Albemarle County, Virginia, $500 million more than initially announced, to produce a broader range of medicines.

The facility, located near Charlottesville, is expected to create about 3,600 direct and indirect jobs, the company said.

The plant will develop and manufacture medications for weight management, cancer and metabolic conditions, the company said.

The facility is expected to be operational within four to five years.
