AstraZeneca will have 200 million COVID vaccine doses by year-end

AstraZeneca will have 200 million doses of its candidate vaccine developed by the University of Oxford by the end of 2020, with 700 million doses ready globally by the end of the first quarter of 2021, operations executive Pam Cheng said on Monday.

Cheng told a briefing that there would be 20 million doses in Britain by the end of the year, with 70 million doses for the UK by the end of Q1 2021.

The company earlier also said its vaccine for COVID-19, developed along with the University of Oxford, is up 90 percent effective, adding to the number of recent breakthroughs against the disease caused by novel coronavirus.

The AstraZeneca vaccine (labelled AZD1222 in trials), which will be manufactured in partnership with Pune’s Serum Institute, is also expected to be among the cheapest, costing a few dollars
