AstraZeneca's Oncology Division Employees Detained in China in Data, Drug Import Probes

06:44 AM EDT, 09/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Five current and former employees of AstraZeneca ( AZN ) have been detained in China on suspicion of illegal patient data collection and the importation of an unapproved liver cancer drug, multiple media outlets reported on Thursday, citing unidentified sources.

The Strait Times reported that all detained employees are Chinese citizens in the oncology division and that the detentions took place earlier in the summer.

"We are aware a small number of our employees in China are under investigation and we have no further information to share at this point," an AstraZeneca ( AZN ) spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed statement.
