03:52 PM EDT, 07/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- AT&T ( T ) is facing a Federal Communications Commission probe into a Feb. 22 outage that disconnected millions of the carrier's customers for possible violations of agency rules.
The FCC issued a report Monday detailing how an equipment configuration error by AT&T Mobility took nearly 12 hours to fully restore voice and data services to roughly 125 million devices, blocking 92 million individual calls, including more than 25,000 calls to 911 and public safety centers.
By making a referral to its enforcement bureau, the FCC indicated it wants to determine if AT&T ( T ) had sufficient controls to keep the outage from spreading throughout its network. The investigation also is expected to examine whether the company adequately notified customers, or violated rules regulating 911 emergency services.
