07:20 AM EDT, 07/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Australia's eSafety Commissioner said Tuesday it gave major technology firms six months "to come up with enforceable codes that will protect children from graphic pornography and other high-impact content."
Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said the child-safety rules are also expected to cover other "high-impact material" such as themes of suicide and serious illness that could include self-harm and disordered eating.
The rules are required to cover app stores and apps and websites including porn websites, search engines, social media services, hosting services, internet service providers, instant messaging, multi-player gaming, online dating services, and equipment providers, the statement said.
