10:37 AM EDT, 04/02/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Avangrid ( AGR ) said Tuesday that it received the federal record of decision from the Department of the Interior for its New England Wind projects, bringing the lease area closer to completing federal approvals for construction.
The company said the federal record of decision followed "years of analysis" conducted by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management over the project's potential environmental impacts.
New England Wind covers the New England Wind 1 and 2 projects, and Avangrid ( AGR ) said it already submitted multiple proposals for the projects to the Massachusetts-Rhode Island-Connecticut Multi-State Procurement for Offshore Wind. The company anticipates the project's Construction and Operations Plan approval in July and for the states to announce selected projects from the competitive procurement in August.
The company said it estimates the New England Wind lease area to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 4 million tons, create up to 9,200 full-time jobs, and bring $8 billion in direct investments to the region.
