11:22 AM EDT, 08/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Avangrid ( AGR ) and its subsidiaries New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric said Tuesday they are installing over 700,000 smart meters for electric and natural gas customers across New York.

The upgrades are happening in seven areas, including Ithaca, Rochester, Brewster, Sodus, Binghamton, Canandaigua, and Hornell, as well as in other locations for new and replacement meters, the company said.

The Avangrid ( AGR ) subsidiaries plan to install over 1.3 million smart meters for electricity and 600,000 for natural gas across 17 areas in New York. The installation will take place over the next two years, and customers will be notified before their new meters are installed, the company added.
