Baker Hughes to supply pipe systems to Brazil's Petrobras
Oct 28, 2024 12:51 PM

Oct 28 (Reuters) - Oilfield services company Baker

Hughes ( BKR ) announced an agreement on Monday to supply

Petrobras with 77 kilometers (47.85 miles) of

flexible pipe systems for Brazil's pre-salt fields in the Santos

Basin.

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

The Santos Basin is an oil- and natural-gas-rich offshore

region off Brazil's southeastern Atlantic coast.

It is one of the country's largest sedimentary basins and

has been attracting widespread investment from major oil and gas

producers across the world, including Shell, CNOOC

and TotalEnergies.

The agreement to provide flexible pipe systems and other

oilfield services is the latest Baker Hughes ( BKR ) has signed with

state-owned Petrobras so far this year.

CONTEXT

Under the multi-year agreement, Baker Hughes ( BKR ) will provide

equipment used for hydrocarbon production, associated gas and

water injection, as well as storage, maintenance and

installation support.

The equipment will be utilized across the Búzios, Libra,

Berbigão, Sururu and Sépia pre-salt fields in the Santos Basin,

which Petrobras operates.

Baker's flexible pipes can also help mitigate the high

concentration of carbon dioxide in the fields, the company said,

benefiting Petrobras, which aims to limit its CO2 emissions.

Delivery is expected to begin by mid-2026.
