08:20 AM EDT, 06/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Ballard Power Systems ( BLDP ) said Thursday it has signed an agreement with Sierra Northern Railway for the supply of 1.5 megawatts of fuel cell engines, with delivery expected this year.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Under the deal, Ballard will deliver 12 FCmove-XD engines to convert three diesel switching locomotives to hydrogen-fueled, zero-emission locomotives.

The fuel cell order is part of the California railway's efforts to decarbonize operations across the state, the company said.
