10:53 AM EDT, 06/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Barclays' ( JJCTF ) branches across England and Scotland were targeted by a pro-Palestine campaign group and climate change activists as part of a protest calling for divestment from companies supplying arms to Israel and those linked to fossil fuels, the groups said in posts on social media platform X Monday.

Palestine Action said 20 Barclays ( JJCTF ) locations were targeted in a joint campaign with Shut The System, which posted a video of a vandalized Barclays ( JJCTF ) branch on X.

"We provide vital financial services to the US, the UK and European public companies that supply defense products to NATO and its allies," a Barclays ( JJCTF ) spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email. "Barclays ( JJCTF ) does not directly invest in these companies."

"Decisions on the implementation of arms embargos to other nations are the job of respective elected governments," the spokesperson said, adding the bank supports the right to protest, but asks campaigners to "do so in a way which respects our customers, colleagues and property."
