Barclays Reportedly Told by Regulator to Conduct Independent Review of Exposure to Private Equity Deals
Jun 14, 2024 4:55 AM

07:30 AM EDT, 06/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Barclays ( JJCTF ) has been asked to review its exposure to leveraged private equity deals as part of a UK regulator's investigation into the risks taken by lenders, multiple media outlets reported Friday, citing unnamed sources.

The Prudential Regulation Authority has asked Barclays ( JJCTF ) to examine whether it has properly assessed the risks of its exposure to leveraged finance deals.

Under the provisions of the review, it must be undertaken by an independent entity, Reuters reported.

The review of Barclays ( JJCTF ) is the first of many such inquiries the regulator is expected to demand, Bloomberg reported.

Barclays ( JJCTF ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of the bank were down nearly 4% in Friday's premarket activity.
