Barrick Notes Ontario Appeal Court's Dismissal of North Mara Mine Police Abuse Case
Apr 8, 2026 5:14 AM

07:45 AM EDT, 04/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Barrick Mining ( B ) (ABX.TO, B), up 5.4% in U.S. pre-market trade, Wednesday welcomed the decision by the Ontario appeal court dismissing an appeal by certain Tanzanian residents alleging human rights abuses by the Tanzanian Police Force in Barrick's North Mara gold mine grounds.

Barrick's statement noted this decision upholds an earlier ruling of the Superior Court of Ontario which found that Ontario is not the appropriate forum to consider these claims and that they must be adjudicated in Tanzania.

The statement also noted evidence filed during the case established that the Tanzanian Police Force acts independently of Barrick, which maintains a zero tolerance policy for human rights violations by employees, contractors or any third parties acting on its behalf.

Barrick shares are up US$2.25, to US$43.65, in New York trading.
