March 27 (Reuters) - Bausch + Lomb ( BLCO ) said on
Thursday it will recall some of its implantable eye lenses after
receiving reports of complications, the cause of which could not
immediately be known.
The company said it is recalling these lenses, which are
part of its enVista platform, out of an abundance of caution,
and was looking to identify a root cause.
"As much as we believe in the enVista platform, patient
safety will always be our number one priority," said CEO Brent
Saunders.
The company's intraocular or surgically implanted lenses are
used in cataract surgery to replace the natural clouded lens in
the eye.
Bausch + Lomb ( BLCO ) said there have been reports of an
inflammatory reaction in some patients with these lenses, adding
the patients responded quickly to treatment, with none requiring
removal of the lens.
The company said it is informing eye care professionals
about the impacted lots and return protocols for the product.
