07:34 AM EST, 12/31/2024 (MT Newswires) -- China's capital city of Beijing passed autonomous driving vehicle regulations Tuesday, advancing the deployment of autonomous vehicle technologies in the city, local news outlets reported Tuesday.

The rules are set to be effective April 1, 2025, covering autonomous driving technology innovation, infrastructure planning and construction, road traffic management and safety assurance, Xinhua and Beijing Daily reported.

According to Beijing Daily, the regulations allow filing for autonomous driving vehicles' road application pilots after road testing, demonstration applications and safety assessments, among other procedures.

Companies that use self-driving technologies in China include Baidu's ( BIDU ) Apollo Go unit and Pony.ai (PONY). Reuters said Tesla (TSLA) also plans to bring its self-driving tech to China in Q1, while WeRide ( WRD ) is mulling robotaxi opportunities in the country.
