05:02 AM EDT, 07/31/2026 (MT Newswires) -- BHP (BHP) said Friday that its focus "remains on reaching a fair and reasonable agreement" after unions threatened one-day strike at the mining giant's port in Pilbara, Western Australia.

Unionized workers at the BHP Port Hedland facility are ready to strike again, after giving BHP five days notice as required under labor regulations.

The planned strike will take place over a 24-hour period, largely on August 9, reported ABC News, Australia.

A five-hour BHP-union negotiation session is scheduled before the nation's Fair Work Commission, on Tuesday.

"If unions genuinely wanted an agreement, they would be focusing on Tuesday's meeting, not organizing industrial action," said BHP, in a prepared statement provided to MT Newswires.

BHP said they have offered unionized workers a 16% pay raise, but that unions are negotiating for an immediate increase of up to 38% in pay.
