06:02 AM EDT, 08/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- BHP Group ( BHP ) and the union representing most of the workers at its Escondida copper mine in Chile agreed to finalize a preliminary deal that ended a three-day strike, media outlets reported Sunday, citing a company statement.
The copper mine is described as the world's largest, and a prolonged strike could have diminished global supplies of the metal, Reuters reported.
The three-year agreement improves bonuses and working conditions, Reuters said, citing unnamed sources at BHP.
BHP did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment. The union, Sindicato No. 1 de Trabajadores de Minera Escondida, could not be immediately reached.
