02:08 PM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- BHP Group ( BHP ) is seeking mediation in labor discussions at its Spence copper mine in Chile, Bloomberg News said Tuesday, citing a company statement.

The request follows the company and union leaders' failure to reach an agreement. The parties have five business days to negotiate and make a deal, the report said.

The mine and plants remain unaffected by the talks, the report added.

BHP Group ( BHP ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. Shares fell about 2.5% in recent trading.
