08:56 AM EDT, 05/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- BioNTech (BNTX) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, or CEPI, said Wednesday that they are expanding their partnership to help build a "sustainable and resilient" end-to-end vaccine ecosystem in Africa.
CEPI will invest up to $145 million for the establishment of mRNA vaccine research and development, clinical and commercial-scale manufacturing capabilities at BioNTech's facility in Kigali, Rwanda, the companies said.
The agreement requires BioNTech to provide low and middle-income countries with affordable access to its prophylactic vaccines made at the Kigali facility, the companies said.
BioNTech and CEPI first announced their partnership in September.
