05:34 AM EST, 11/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Cryptocurrency prices surged on news that former President Donald Trump was on the verge of clinching a second term over Vice President Kamala Harris.

Bitcoin and ethereum were both up more than 7% in the last 24 hours, to around $73,800 and $2,620, respectively, according to CoinmarketCap.

Solana was up nearly 14% to around $184 and Dogecoin, the meme coin popularized by Trump backer Elon Musk, more than 17%.

Trump is widely perceived as championing the adoption of digital currencies.
