Blackberry Edges Down After Hours as it Swings to Fiscal Q3 Profit Even as Revenue Falls

05:42 PM EST, 12/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- BlackBerry (BB.TO, BB) edged down in after-hours New York trade on Thursday as it swung to a profit in its fiscal third-quarter, while revenue fell year-over-year.

The company said reported earnings per share of US$0.02, compared with a loss of US$0.01 a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet expected a US$0.01 loss.

Revenue for the quarter ended Nov. 30 was US$143 million, down from US$152 million in the year-ago quarter. FactSet consensus was US$141.6 million.

For fiscal Q4, the company expects adjusted basic per-share results of US$0.01 loss to US$0.01 earnings on revenue of US$126 million to US$135 million. FactSet projects earnings per share of US$0.01 on revenue of US$152.3 million.

For fiscal 2025, BlackBerry said it now expects per-share results ranging from a loss of US$0.02 to breakeven on revenue of US$517 million to US$526 million. The company previously projected an adjusted loss of US$0.02 to US$0.05 per share on revenue of US$591 million to US$616 million for the period. FactSet is looking for a loss of US$0.02 on revenue of US$578.5 million.

The earnings update comes after Blackberry earlier this week outlined the terms of an agreement for the sale of its Cylance assets to Arctic Wolf for $160 million of cash,and approximately 5.5-million shares of Arctic Wolf. After allowing for purchase price adjustments, BlackBerry will receive approximately $80 million of cash at closing and approximately $40 million of cash one year following the closing.

Blackberry shares were last seen down US$0.01 to US$2.97 after hours. They closed down $0.05 to $4.28 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
