Blink Charging Expands In Norwich: 22 New EV Stations To Power Greener Commutes
Dec 11, 2024 10:16 AM

Blink Charging Co. ( BLNK ) shares are trading lower on Wednesday.

The company is making significant strides in supporting the transition to greener transportation with its ongoing collaboration with Norfolk County Council.

The company’s U.K. division is entering the next phase of its partnership to enhance electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the Norwich area.

By February 2025, Blink Charging ( BLNK ) will add 22 new charging stations at 12 locations, bringing the total number of charging stations to 46 in Norwich.

This initiative builds on a successful contract win in early 2023, where Blink Charging UK began installing accessible, on-street EV chargers in residential areas.

These chargers are especially beneficial for residents without private driveways or off-street parking, making it easier for them to adopt electric vehicles.

To date, 24 Blink EV chargers have been installed in Norwich, helping to make sustainable transportation more convenient for local residents.

The collaboration is part of Norfolk County Council’s broader plan to increase EV adoption, reduce emissions, and enhance necessary infrastructure.

As part of the effort, 19 of the chargers installed are already connected and in use. Early data shows these chargers have already contributed 3,086 kWh of power, saving over 2.6 million kg of CO2 emissions, and have enabled drivers to travel 10,801 miles, demonstrating the positive environmental impact of the project.

Norfolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Graham Plant, emphasized the importance of this infrastructure in supporting the region’s move towards electric vehicles.

He noted that accessible public chargers, particularly in residential areas, are essential for encouraging more residents to switch to EVs. The project is expected to help make Norwich a model city for urban EV charging solutions in the U.K.

The latest phase will see the installation of floor-mounted 22kW fast chargers and 50-100kW rapid chargers at residential on-street locations.

Price Action: BLNK shares are trading lower by 1.47% to $1.675 at last check Wednesday.
