07:04 AM EDT, 06/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing's ( BA ) delayed deliveries of 787-9 aircraft have forced Taiwan's China Airlines to postpone the retirement of some of its older jets, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing Chairman George Kao.
China Airlines ordered 24 Boeing 787s last year, including 18 787-9s and six 787-10 variants.
Kao said in an interview with Reuters that the fleet renewal plan to replace older Boeing 737-800s and Airbus A330s with 787-9s and A321neos is affected as a result of the delays in the delivery of new aircraft, especially the 787-9s. Kao said some aircraft scheduled for phase-out or lease return will remain in service with extended leases. He said that Boeing ( BA ) has not provided an exact delivery timeline but indicated that 787-9 deliveries would "basically" begin at the end of 2025.
Asked about compensation, Kao said it is "written into the contract."
Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
