09:43 AM EDT, 03/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday ordered Boeing ( BA ) to upgrade five jet lines from its 777 series prompted by concerns about wing anti-ice and autothrottle technologies

According to an airworthiness directive, valve failures on the anti-ice mechanisms can result in undetected structural damage to the leading edge slat assemblies.

Separately, a failure of the 777 plane's autothrottle to disconnect after the pilot manually advanced the throttle levers caused low-speed conditions during a go-around. The FAA said it determined that insufficient low-speed protection exists in the 777 fleet, and that flight crew may not recognize and properly respond to a multi-channel unreliable airspeed event.

The FAA said the company must install new software within 35 days to ameliorate the problems "to address the unsafe condition on these products."

The directive applies to Boeing 777-200, 777-200LR, 777-300, 777-300ER, and 777F series.
