01:50 PM EDT, 07/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) said Monday it secured several new aircraft orders, including a commitment by Korean Air to purchase up to 50 wide-body jets.
Korean Air intends to buy 20 777-9 planes and 20 787-10 aircraft, with options for 10 more of Boeing's ( BA ) largest 787 Dreamliner variant, the companies said in a joint statement.
"Korean Air's selection of the 777-9 and 787-10 supports planned growth and renewal of its fleet in size, range and capacity to reach high-demand markets in Europe and North America, as well as popular regional routes within Asia," the companies said. The carrier is looking to expand its fleet ahead of its anticipated merger with Asiana Airlines, according to the statement.
Korean Air has received its first 787-10 aircraft and will launch its maiden flight Thursday from Seoul Incheon to Tokyo Narita, the airline said in a separate statement.
Separately, Japan Airlines has committed to 10 787-9 Dreamliner jets, with options for 10 more, while European regional carrier Luxair has placed an order for two Boeing 737-10 Max jets, with options for two more.
Boeing ( BA ) and National Airlines separately said the carrier has committed to place its first order for four 777 Freighters. The plane maker separately received a $16.8 million contract from the US Air Force for software and data enhancements to the KC-46A tanker.
On July 1, Boeing ( BA ) announced a deal to acquire Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ) in a roughly $8.3 billion deal that would reverse their 2005 separation as the troubled aircraft manufacturer continued its quality and safety improvement efforts.
Earlier this month, Boeing ( BA ) data showed it delivered 92 commercial jets in the second quarter, down from 136 a year earlier, while orders slumped to 25 from 407.
The company is scheduled to report its second-quarter financial results July 31. Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ are looking for revenue of $17.39 billion, compared with $19.75 billion reported a year earlier.
