Boeing Reminds 787 Dreamliner Operators to Inspect Cockpit Seats After Latam Flight Incident
Mar 15, 2024 11:05 AM

01:44 PM EDT, 03/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) said Friday that it has reminded operators of 787 Dreamliner jets to inspect switches on flight deck seats.

The company was responding to MT Newswires after a Wall Street Journal report stating that Boeing ( BA ) has advised airlines to check the cockpit seats on 787 jets following an incident on a Sydney-to-Auckland Latam Airlines flight.

Boeing ( BA ) told MT Newswires that 787 operators have been reminded of a service bulletin issued in 2017 that includes instructions to inspect and maintain the switches.

"We are recommending operators perform an inspection at the next maintenance opportunity," the company said.

Boeing ( BA ) deferred to the ongoing investigation of flight LA800 for any possible findings.

"[Latam Airlines Group] continues to work in coordination with the authorities in order to support the ongoing investigation," the airline said in a separate statement to MT Newswires.

Citing US industry officials, the WSJ report said that a motorized feature pushed the pilot into the controls and pushed down the nose of the plane after a flight attendant hit a switch on the pilot's seat while serving a meal.

The report said about 50 passengers on the flight needed medical attention.
