04:30 PM EDT, 05/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) is facing a Federal Aviation Administration investigation into the inspections of some of its 787 Dreamliner jets and falsifying records, the regulator told MT Newswires on Monday.
The inquiry is being undertaken after Boeing ( BA ) voluntarily notified the FAA in April that "it may not have completed required inspections to confirm adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the fuselage on certain 787 Dreamliner airplanes," the FAA said.
A whistleblower had reportedly sought the grounding of all 787 Dreamliner jets worldwide, having raised concerns over the fuselage and other issues.
The aircraft manufacturer is also reinspecting all 787 airplanes still in production. It also must create a plan to address the in-service fleet, the FAA said.
Boeing ( BA ) shared a copy of an April 29 email with MT Newswires sent by Scott Stocker, who leads Boeing's ( BA ) 787 program, to the company's South Carolina employees.
Stocker said that a teammate saw something in the "factory that he believed was not being done right, and spoke up about it."
Following a quick review of the what has been reported, Stocker said the company learned that "several people had been violating company policies by not performing a required test, but recording the work as having been completed."
"We promptly informed our regulator about what we learned and are taking swift and serious corrective action with multiple teammates," Stocker said.
