01:38 PM EDT, 09/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, representing over 30,000 members currently on strike, are scheduled meet again on Friday with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services to continue contract negotiations, according to IAM District 751.
Machinists began their strike at Boeing ( BA ) on Sept. 13, after nearly 95% of its members voted to reject a Boeing ( BA ) proposal offering a 25% wage increase over four years. The company reportedly began "rolling" furloughs of other employees this week, with groups of workers set to be idled for one-week periods every four weeks.
Talks broke down last week although Boeing ( BA ) on Monday reportedly made a non-negotiated contract offer providing a 30% raise, and reinstated annual bonuses. The offer was dependent on employee ratification by Friday. However, the union declined to vote since it was logistically impossible, and the offer missed on a number of issues.
Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to a request from MT Newswires seeking comment.
