Boeing, US Government Reach Agreement on Principle to Resolve Fatal 737 MAX Crashes Investigation
Jul 8, 2024 3:19 AM

05:51 AM EDT, 07/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) and the US government reached an agreement in principle over their planned plea deal that would close the investigation into two fatal 737 MAX crashes, according to a Sunday court filing from the US government.

Boeing ( BA ) confirmed to MT Newswires that it reached an agreement in principle on terms of a resolution with the Justice Department.

Under the deal, Boeing ( BA ) will plead guilty to a criminal fraud conspiracy charge, pay a $243.6 million fine, and invest at least $455 million in safety and compliance programs, among others, said the US government.

According to the court filing, Boeing ( BA ) and the US government are "proceeding expeditiously" to document the plea deal and are planning to file the agreement with the court by July 19. The families of the crash victims, however, have expressed their intent to oppose this deal and the US government said it requested for the court to postpone a trial scheduling order to meet and confer with the stakeholders.
