12:32 PM EDT, 10/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) and Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) joint venture United Launch Alliance said it successfully launched on Friday its second certification flight of the advanced Vulcan Centaur rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The alliance said it had a bullseye rocket insertion in the "Cert-2" mission, completing all requirements for certification. However, it said the US Space Force will still have to evaluate if the vehicle's performance meets the standards before the rocket is certified to launch national security missions.
The rocket's upper stage Centaur V provides 2.5 times the energy and 450 times the endurance of its predecessors, according to the launch service provider.
