BoE's Bailey calls again for joint action to address trade strains
Mar 24, 2025 11:55 AM

LEICESTER, England (Reuters) - Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey reiterated on Monday his call for cooperation among the world's economies to resolve strains in the global trading system, which is facing upheaval from the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump.

"These two points - domestic macroeconomic forces and trade policy - are not incompatible," Bailey said in the text of a speech to be delivered at the University of Leicester.

"They sit together. My final point here is that to solve these issues we need authorities to come together and strengthen the rules of engagement in a multilateral setting," he said.
