03:13 PM EDT, 09/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- BP (BP) has signed a preliminary agreement with Egypt's state-owned gas company EGAS to drill five new deepwater natural gas wells in the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt's Petroleum Ministry said in a statement Monday.
The agreement aims to accelerate gas exploration and production using existing infrastructure in the West Nile Delta region, with drilling expected to begin next year, the statement added.
The planned wells will target depths between 300 and 1,500 meters and may be connected to current facilities after results are evaluated, it added.
The agreement follows BP's recent discoveries in Egypt, including the King-2 exploration well in the West Nile Delta, according to the statement.
