SAO PAULO, May 20 (Reuters) - A court in Brazil has
ordered conglomerate Novonor to pay Braskem ( BAK )
compensation for "abuse of controlling power," the petrochemical
company said in a securities filing on Monday.
The judge in Sao Paulo "upheld the claims to order Novonor
to compensate Braskem ( BAK ) for material damages," Braskem ( BAK ) said,
citing figures that exceed $1 billion, not including interest
and monetary correction.
"This is a first instance decision that can be appealed,"
Braskem ( BAK ) said.
Novonor, which holds a controlling stake in Braskem ( BAK ), did not
comment on whether it would appeal it or not.
