SAO PAULO, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Brazilian logistics
operator Rumo ( RUMOF ) has clinched a deal with a local
subsidiary of U.S. agribusiness major CHS Inc ( CHSCL ) to build
a new grains and fertilizer terminal at the port of Santos.
CHS and Rumo ( RUMOF ), which is controlled by conglomerate Cosan ( CSAN )
, will share control of a joint venture responsible
for developing the new asset in the largest port in Latin
America, according to a securities filing late on Wednesday.
The terminal will have an annual capacity of up to 12.5
million metric tons, including 9 million tons of grains and 3.5
million tons of fertilizers, Rumo ( RUMOF ) said.
Brazil is a top global supplier of grains such as soybean
and corn but imports much of its fertilizer needs.
The companies did not detail how much they will invest in
the terminal. The start of construction is subject environmental
licensing and legal and regulatory approvals, the Brazilian firm
added.
