Finally after appointed by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the US Senate, Indian-American Arun Venkataraman has been sworn in as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets. Prior to his appointment, he served as the counsellor to the secretary of commerce, advising the department on trade and other international economic matters.

Prime Minister Johnson met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss a whole host of issues, ranging from the Ukraine war, to ways to forge deeper defence partnership between the two countries.

SIPRI in its latest report said that military spending in Europe and Russia surged due to Russia-Ukraine war despite slow economic growth. Russia lifted its military outlays by 2.9 percent to 4.1 percent of GDP, or $65.9 billion in 2021 to built up its forces along the Ukrainian border, the report added.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at a conference called on investors at silicon valley to be part of the country's growth story while pitching for collaboration with the US in financial services and emerging technologies. The round table was hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the US Chamber of Commerce's US India Business Council (USIBC).
