10:30 AM EDT, 05/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Campbell Soup ( CPB ) said Tuesday it will close its Tualatin, Oregon plant in phases starting August and reduce the size of the Jeffersonville, Indiana facility in July, impacting a total of 415 employees.
At the same time, the company said it is investing $230 million through 2026 to expand its production at its more modern and efficient plants as part of efforts to transform its supply chain to support growth.
The company said the Tualatin plant, which makes organic soup, broth, and plant-based beverages, will cease operations by July 2026, with the first phase impacting 120 employees in August. Production will move to other facilities and co-manufacturing partners.
The Jeffersonville plant will transition to specialize in tortilla chips in July, affecting 85 employees, while kettle potato chip production will be moved to other sites, Campbell said.
The company said it will provide the 415 affected employees with separation benefits and job placement assistance.
Projects aimed at supporting the company's growth are expected to create 212 new roles, according to Campbell. Investments include $150 million in Maxton, North Carolina, adding 100 roles for aseptic soup production; $72 million in Hanover, Pennsylvania, adding 72 roles for potato chip production; and $8 million in Franklin, Wisconsin, adding 40 roles for tortilla chip production, Campbell Soup ( CPB ) said.
