05:19 PM EDT, 09/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Canadian National Railway ( CNI ) was up 1% in after hours New York trading after the company on Monday said it expanded and upgraded its firefighting rail fleet, boosting its ability to protect its rail network and aid local firefighters.
The company added two new stand-alone firefighting railcars; Oceanus and Amphitrite, both capable of carrying 25,000 gallons of water and outfitted with cannons, pumps, and hose support. These units are designed for rapid deployment and can operate independently or integrated with larger train configurations.
Additionally, CN launched a pilot program featuring smaller, 350-gallon fire trailers equipped with fixed water cannons for off-track wildfire response and stationed eight additional 30,000-gallon tank cars in strategic locations across British Columbia. The existing firefighting units; Neptune, Trident, and Poseidon, have also received upgrades, more than doubling their water capacity.
"These new assets strengthen our ability to defend our network, protecting supply chain corridors from the threat of wildfires while also supporting emergency responders. Together, we are ensuring resilience where it matters most," said Vice President of Safety and Environment Mark Grubbs.
Canadian National Railway ( CNI ) shares were last seen down US$1.00 to US$95.25 after hours. They closed down $2.19 to $131.57 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
