08:02 AM EDT, 10/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Financial markets are seeking safe havens to start the new month on Tuesday, said Scotiabank.
The US dollar is broadly stronger, sovereign yields are broadly but gently lower except for Canada's front-end, and equities are mixed with mild losses alongside small gains across regional exchanges, noted the bank.
Canada's shorter-term yields are higher coming back from Monday's holiday as they catch up to less dovishness from US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and after Friday's better gross domestic product growth than Statistics Canada had guided, stated Scotiabank.
Chinese markets are now shut for Golden Week after starting the week with a huge rally.
