As an emerging technology, SiC allows for much-improved efficiencies and power-handling capabilities, especially in high-power charging applications and battery management systems.

Scaled to make auto-grade devices, the packaging line will produce Silicon Carbide MOSFETs, Silicon Carbide Schottky Diodes, Rectifiers, Zeners and TVS Diodes among others for the domestic as well as the global market.

Even as the expansion of assembly lines will increase CDIL’s total capacity at the facility to 600 million units annually, the plant aims to address the impending surge in demand for electric vehicles, power management devices, solar panels and other wide-band gap electronics.

While the new semiconductor packaging lines added via MeitY’s SPECS scheme (Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors) aim to increase CDIL's annual capacity by 100 million units, the first phase of production with a surface mount packaging line of 50 million devices has been initiated.

CDIL has signed an MoU with the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), a Mohali-based research institute under MeitY which is undertaking research and development in the field of semiconductor technology.

The MoU aims to establish a comprehensive framework using SCL's domain knowledge and wafer fabrication facilities to produce indigenized wafers for CDIL’s discrete semiconductor devices through its proprietary manufacturing processes.

CDIL has established an advanced high reliability (HiRel) and testing laboratory in Mohali, in addition to its NABL-accredited facility in Delhi. The HiRel laboratory is aimed to qualify CDIL’s devices for stringent sectors like automotive, defence and aerospace.
