Century Aluminum's Unit Pauses Production at Iceland Smelter's 1 Potline After Electrical Equipment Failure
Oct 21, 2025 3:29 PM

05:45 PM EDT, 10/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Century Aluminum ( CENX ) said late Tuesday that its unit has temporarily halted production at one of its potlines due to an electrical equipment failure at its aluminum smelter in Iceland.

The aluminum producer reported no injuries, and the other potline at the site remains unaffected and functional.

Due to the temporary shutdown, production at the smelter has been reduced by about two-thirds, the company said.

An impact assessment, as well as a timeline for securing replacement equipment and restoring full production, is underway, the company added.
