12:11 PM EDT, 04/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- CF Industries ( CF ) is partnering with Japan's energy company, JERA, and Tokyo-based trading house Mitsui & Co. to build a low-carbon ammonia production facility at its Blue Point Complex in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.
CF will operate the plant and hold a 40% stake in the joint venture. JERA will own 35% and Mitsui 25%, with each partner funding the $4 billion project in line with their ownership, the company said.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with production targeted for 2029. CF also plans to invest an additional $550 million to build and operate infrastructure for storage, loading, and other support services, generating services revenue from the venture.
The facility is designed to capture and sequester around 2.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, transported and stored by 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental (OXY), enabling the joint venture to qualify for federal tax credits, according to CF Industries ( CF ).
Shares of CF Industries ( CF ) were down nearly 3% in recent trading.
