CFPB sues Walmart, Branch Messenger for illegally opening deposit accounts
Dec 23, 2024 6:35 AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said on Monday it was suing Walmart and Branch Messenger for forcing delivery drivers to use costly deposit accounts to get paid and for deceiving workers.

In a statement, the bureau alleged the two companies opened Branch accounts for Spark Drivers. Walmart then deposited drivers' pay into these accounts without their consent, it said.
