09:09 AM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Charles River Laboratories ( CRL ) said Tuesday it has launched an initiative in collaboration with Sanofi ( SNY ) to reduce animal testing by using Virtual Control Groups in nonclinical research.

The Virtual Control Groups are based on historical data and statistical analysis. While they have already been used in some clinical trials, their use in preclinical research is new, the companies said.

"By leveraging this historical information, we are able to reduce control group animals and provide clients with meaningful study results," said Shannon Parisotto, executive vice president at Charles River.
