Chesapeake Energy, Southwestern Energy Merger Delayed After FTC Seeks Additional Documents

11:36 AM EDT, 04/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) said Friday that its proposed merger with Southwestern Energy ( SWN ) will be completed in H2 due to additional documents requested by the the Federal Trade Commission.

Both companies received a request for additional information and documentary materials from the FTC on Thursday. This extends the waiting period imposed by the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act until 30 days after the companies have complied with the request, Chesapeake Energy ( CHK ) said.

The companies had previously projected to close the transaction in Q2.

The merger is still subject to certain closing conditions, including approvals of Chesapeake and Southwestern shareholders, according to the filing.
